Leveraging Live Streaming for Your Small Business

SmallBizLady: Why should I use Periscope to build my brand?

Shade Y. Adu: Livestreaming is one of the fastest ways to build your brand in a short amount of time. Over 13 million people have downloaded Periscope and use the app to connect and engage with other. They are looking for products and services. They want your products and services. Live streaming expedites the trust building process. Live streaming also gives business the opportunity to connect with clients from around the world.

SmallBizLady: How can I get started?

Shade Y. Adu: Download the Periscope App. Start watching other scopes and just join in. Business owners should be using this platform to educate the public about their products and services. There are also several Periscope Support Facebook Groups such as Periscope PeriNewbies and PeriMarketPlace.

SmallBizLady: How often should I Periscope? How long should broadcasts be?

Shade Y. Adu: Periscope boardcasts only last for 24 hours so it is extremely important to scope daily. Periscope is your new business card and free adverting. You want to maximize your coverage by always having a broadcast available for replay viewers.  Great scopes are on average 30 minutes to 60 minutes long.

SmallBizLady: How do you monetize your Periscopes?

Shade Y. Adu: The key to monetizing Periscope is to having a seamless Periscope Strategy. You have to take your followers off of the platform and place them on to your emailing list. Periscope is rented space. You must get your followers onto a platform that you own.  People buy from people they like. Periscope expedites the process.

SmallBizLady:  How do I build a brand on Periscope?

Shade Y. Adu: Authenticity is key. Live streaming viewers value honesty and authenticity. They want to know more about you. This is a great opportunity to share you story with others. They want to connect with you real time. This is a opportunity to build that “know-like-and trust factor.” Share your brilliance.

SmallBizLady: I don’t know what to talk about. What should I Scope about?

Shade Y. Adu: Business owners should scope about their business. You can show some behind the scenes of your business. You can also educate the public about your product and host live product demonstrations and launch programs and service via the app.

SmallBizLady: I am an introvert. Is Periscope for me?

Shade Y. Adu: Periscope is definitely is a platform where big personalities thrive, however most scopes care about the value that is being added to their lives. Ask yourself this question: Does my scope provide my target market value? If the answer is yes, I would definitely, give it a shot. If you are not sure about Periscope, check out the conversational live streaming platform Blab.im.

SmallBizLady: How do you re-purpose Scopes?

Shade Y. Adu: You can later turn your Periscope videos into Youtube content, Facebook posts, blog post, ebooks, and promotional materials. Periscope content can also be turned into paid programs and digital products. The key to reusing your content is to make sure you save it for later.

SmallBizLady: What should you do to prepare for a broadcast?

Shade Y. Adu: You want to make sure that you are in a location with great lighting and sound. Minimize your distractions while you are scoping if possible. Make sure that your are using WIFI if possible. Bad sound and a bad connection and instantly turn off your followers.

SmallBizLady: How do I get my followers off of my Periscope and on to my website or mailling list?

Shade Y. Adu: You must offer your followers an incentive to get them off of scope and on to your mailing list. Offer a consultation, cheat sheet, worksheet, video training and get your Scopers the opportunity to stay connected with you off of Scope. Have an easy to spell url address or have a text message opt-in.

SmallBizLady: How do I handle trolls?

Shade Y. Adu: Do not entertain trolls. They are a distraction to you and your audience. Ignore their comments, block and report them to Periscope. Continue to provide value and educate your following base.

SmallBizLady: Is Periscope and live streaming just a fad?

Shade Y. Adu: Live streaming is a social media trend that small business should and cannot ignore. Customers are overloaded with information and live streaming allows them to get their questions answered in real time. Customers want more. Live streaming gives them that intimate access. Other platforms such as Facebook and Youtube are also going live. Don’t be left behind. Jump on the live streaming bandwagon.
