If you’ve been thinking about starting a small business for months or even years, I have one question for you: Is 2015 the year you’ll FINALLY Become Your Own Boss? You’ve been reading blogs, stalking potential competitors online and dreaming about signing your own paycheck, but you haven’t taken the plunge into entrepreneurship just yet. You are feeling fear because you don’t have a plan.
It’s Time to Get Over What’s Holding You Back
You probably have plenty excuses about why you haven’t started that business yet. Here are my responses to some of those excuses:
- You don’t know everything there is to know about running a business. Trust me: you never will. Just learn as you go. We all do.
- You’re afraid of failing. There is no such thing as failure in business, either you win or you learn. If you’re open to the lessons you learn each time, you’ll be a stronger entrepreneur for it.
- There are already too many businesses in your field. Here’s a news flash: competition means there is a market for your product or service. You’ve just got to find your unique approach that will make your business stand out.
- It’s not the perfect time. It will never, ever be the perfect time. Sometimes you have to jump in and trust that it will work out.
Can You Focus on Starting a Business in 2015?
Sometimes it’s not the right time to start a business. If you have any major life changes happening right now, such as getting married, having a child or taking care of elderly parents, you might postpone your entrepreneurial dreams until the dust settles. These are all events that require a lot of focus and energy on your part. Your business will too, so don’t make them compete with one another.
What Do You Need to Get Started?
You need a plan for success. Don’t wait to start planning your dream business, get started now! You know I believe it’s best to plan for 12 months before starting your business. Begin by developing your new vision for your life as an entrepreneur. Then evaluate your finances. As you know, the money to start will come from your right or left pocket. Then start mapping out the type of business you’ll run. Next, determine what kinds of products or services you will offer. Who will your target customers be? Do your brainstorming now and write out how you envision your company so that when you start working on the technical details like securing your website, creating your business plan, and getting your business permits, you’ll be that much more prepared.
You can also create a calendar of what you need to do each month to launch your business. This is all stuff I cover in my new book, Become Your Own Boss in 12 Months
I have confidence in you: 2015 will be the year you make your dreams of running a small business come true!
