As it’s Thanksgiving Day, it struck me that Thanks and Giving is an everyday thing in the life of business owners. We are thankful for the opportunity to serve customers and we give jobs to our employees. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday of the year. It’s not just the food, spending time with relatives or being off the next few days to shop, but really because it’s a great time for reflection. We spend so much time working and pushing for more, that we don’t always take the time to appreciate what we’ve accomplished. The other day I was complaining to a friend about the results of a new project I’ve been working on, and he stopped me in my tracks and said, “Hey, I need you to remember how far you’ve come.” He was right—it’s a good idea to take a step back as the year comes to a close to think about where you are in your life and in your business and how you are going to accomplish your next big idea.
What I am thankful for:
This month marks my 10th year online as SmallBizLady. I had no idea how my life would change once I took up the cause to end small business failure. For some of you who don’t know my story, I started helping business owners after almost losing everything the year I got pregnant with my son. I was put on bed rest and without Wi-Fi at home (because it didn’t exist back then), I had no real opportunity to continue working. As the main rainmaker in my business, our revenues greatly suffered. My marriage was also on life support as all this was unfolding.
At a loss for want to do next, a friend suggested that I start praying. And I did. Before long, I received a vision from God in 2007 to become America’s #1 Small Business Expert. Once I took up the mantel to help entrepreneurs, he sent me two angels to help me along the way. These two ladies Sweetie Berry and Sonia Schenker worked with me at the start to build the SmallBizLady brand. They said they believed in me, and worked for free to help me rebuild my business for one year. I will forever be grateful to them.
In the last 10 years, I have published three books, Become Your Own Boss in 12 Months, 2nd Edition, How to Become a Social Media Ninja and my latest, Fix Your Business, A 90 Day Plan to Get Your Life Back and Reduce Chaos in Your Business. I have hosted over 450 episodes of #Smallbizchat on Twitter and Facebook LIVE. I have published more than 5000 articles on how to start or grow a small business on my blog www.succeedasyourownboss.com. I have had the opportunity to write for Entrepreneur, Inc., Essence and Black Enterprise magazines. I was also small business columnist for the New York Times, and I’ve been a national spokesperson for a dozen major Fortune 500 companies including Google, American Express, FedEx, Pitney Bowes, Visa, Small’s Club, Verizon and The Hartford.
I have had the opportunity speak all over the world teaching people how to live their dream life as a business owner. The one thing that I have learned more than anything else is that you are one idea away from being able to do whatever you want.
One the best things about being SmallBizLady is that my brand partners often give me great stuff to pass along to you. This year I’m celebrating the holidays with a giveaway contest just for you.
