10 bible versus every small business owner needs - article image2019 is a new year to be grateful in the Lord and have faith. Despite how things currently are in your life, in the economy or in your business, teach yourself to say, “I trust you, Jesus.”  Know that any tough situation is temporary.

When you are facing challenges, double down on prayer and meditation. We use prayer to talk to God but often the skill we need to learn is how to use meditation to listen for God’s direction. Starting your day in quiet and calm will increase your focus and productivity. Be thankful for closed doors just as you are for new opportunities.  God’s will is what is best for us, and regardless of how it looks now, know that mess always comes as God is about to do big things in your life. Have faith in God’s promise.

Isaiah 43:18-19 (NIV)

“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past.”

The new year is a perfect time to start over or pivot. We waste time dwelling on past hurts and disappoints. Some call them failures, I don’t believe in that. All situations are lessons, and some are just more expensive than others. You never lose in business either you win or you learn. Embrace 2019 with confidence that this time you will hire better, chose better partners, and succeed in your business endeavors.

John 1:4 (NIV)

“In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.”

You should say to yourself this little light of mine I’m going to let it shine because we serve a God of light and love. As believers, you will shine and no one and nothing can stop you from shining because the light of Christ is in you. Keep shining.

Isaiah 30:20-21(NIV)

“Although the Lord gives you the bread of adversity and the water of affliction, your teachers will be hidden no more; with your own eyes you will see them. Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.”

In business, often you are plagued by consistent problems, we must change our thinking to see it an opportunity. So if you are having constant turn over with your staff, it can’t be all on them. Often we are the problem, and we must be teachable. It’s time to change your hiring process. Trying writing a complete job description, looking at multiple candidates, and developing new hire training, so people know what you expect and I bet you’ll get a different result.

Galatians 6:7-8 (NIV)

“Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.”

Every day we must set our minds on God’s Word and choose to speak Jesus’ truth over our lives. My father used to say if you do good, good will follow you. If you do wrong, that will follow you too. Be careful how you treat the people who work for you.

Psalm 63: 1-5 (NIV)

“You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek you; I thirst for you, my whole being longs for you, in a dry and parched land where there is no water. I have seen you in the sanctuary and beheld your power and your glory. Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you. I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name I will lift up my hands. I will be fully satisfied as with the richest of foods; with singing lips my mouth will praise you.”

God’s love is better than life. Look to him on the toughest, loneliest days in your business. If we seek him, praise him and honor him as we make decisions in our businesses, he will make sure that we always have everything we need. As we serve our customers and employees, we must keep God first. Trust in the power of God. He will deliver you right on time.

Ephesians 3:20 (NIV)

Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us.

God really does dream bigger for you than you can imagine for yourself. As Christians, we should spend time dreaming and imagining our plans for the future, for our lives and our businesses.  Know that through God we will achieve infinitely more than our greatest dreams. We must dream outrageous dreams deliberately. It is the only way God can know the desires of our heart and exceed them. It will be wilder than your imagination can possibly reach

Hebrews 13:6 (NIV)

“So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?”

Fear is one thing that often plagues us in business. But as long as we remember where our help comes from we can keep our fear in check. After 20 years in business, whenever I feel fear or worry creeping, I go back to the evidence I have of God’s promise to never forsake me. Then a check or an opportunity just shows up.  You can’t be afraid of firing an employee or customer that doesn’t serve your business well. God will send you another contract and an employee with the right spirit for your business. Culture fit does matter. You can teach anyone technical skills, but you can’t teach adults to be nice.

I Corinthians 2:5 (KJV) 

“That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.”

We should always pray for guidance and discernment. We all have times when we seek advice when making tough business decisions. But always consider the source and the experience of the person giving the advice. Beware of false prophets. Just like you wouldn’t take marriage advice from a single person, be sure you are seeking business advice from someone who has been where you are trying to go in business.

Joshua 1:9 (NIV)

“Have I not commanded you, do not be afraid or be discouraged.”

Faith is key in business, it is important that remember what God has done for us, especially when things get tough. He died for us on the cross, so that all our sin would be forgiven. He has never forsaken us and he’s not going to start now. Remember your faith!

Philippians 1:6 (NIV)

“Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”

Doubt kills more businesses than bad marketing. if God gave you a vision for your business, he also put in you what you need to accomplish what the business requires. You must grow yourself you grow your business. Seek opportunities to read about your industry. Look for a mastermind group to join for personal accountability and sharpen your leadership skills so that you can nurture your team.

I pray that my humble translation of God’s word will encourage you in your life and business this year. Let’s pray more and worry less this year knowing that God’s got this and everything else.  Stay blessed.
