hiring tipsThere are few things that are more stressful than being short-staffed. Every hire you make feels like a desperate bid to keep your business up and running. That’s when recruiting makes the biggest difference in your business. You need to attract the best talent and not just whatever is available on the market. There are a few strategies and tools you can use in your hiring process that will help you build your own team with the best professionals out there. This blog will share hiring tips and explain how you can leverage hiring tools to your advantage.

4 Small Business Hiring Tips

1. Use an Online Scheduling Calendar

Make it easy to schedule calls and interviews with candidates by using an online appointment booking system. This type of calendar allows you to set your availability for an interview and gives candidates a clear view of what times they can schedule an interview for. They can see the time that also works best for them, click on it, and simply reserve a spot for an interview. This makes things so much easier than having to go back and forth with emails or calls. There are much better options out there.

Make sure you pick an online booking software that includes many extra features including automatic appointment reminders via SMS or email. Additional features that could come in handy are creating automatic buffer times on your schedule, so you never have to worry about hosting meetings back-to-back.

2. Make Your Job Posting as Detailed as Possible

One of the biggest mistakes that recruiters can make is not being specific about what they want in a candidate. Clarity in the very beginning should be desired and expected from both parties in the hiring process. That’s why it is extremely valuable to do a little bit more work at the beginning of the process by outlining your exact expectations for the position.

This listing should include all skills and character traits you are looking for in a successful candidate. This could be language skills that are necessary or what specific programs that require proficiency. But more importantly, you should include a description of what traits you think would work well with your team. A cultural fit is just as important as a skill fit. Keep in mind that you are also selling the concept of the job so you should make the job posting fun and approachable so that candidates feel assured about the company and its stability.

3. Make Use of Online Resources like Zip Recruiter and LinkedIn

One of the most important lessons to learn on your recruiting journey is that you don’t have to do it all by yourself. Use the tools that you have at your disposal, and that includes online tools that specialize in getting the best recruits for the best jobs. These tools include programs like ZipRecruiter, which focuses on making things as simple as possible for both the candidate and the company. The ZipRecruiter app can help candidates apply for a job in one click.

LinkedIn is a hugely popular platform for professionals around the world. It is also one of the best tools when it comes to recruiting because it hosts so many companies and job seekers in one convenient place. LinkedIn gives you special tools for recruiting. You can post your job online, but also comb through professionals who have skills that you are looking for in this position. With their Easy Apply feature, you can quickly go through and weed out job seekers who don’t qualify for the role.

These tools will make your company and the position more visible, giving you an advantage in the current competitive job market. You need to put your best foot forward, and these online tools can help you reach out to the candidates you want.

4. Maintain Communication with Your Candidates

Some of the best solutions are the most obvious solutions, and simple courtesy can go a long way when it comes to convincing a candidate. That’s why it’s important to keep in touch with candidates throughout the interview and recruiting process. Never underestimate the power of a simple email check-in when it comes to persuading the best talent to join your team.

Candidates are just like everybody else in that they are dissatisfied if they feel like they are being left in the dark through the recruiting process. Particularly if your company has a long hiring process, it is nice to take time to email candidates every few days just to keep them in the loop about where you are in the decision process. You can even offer to schedule a post-interview follow-up call on your online scheduler. This way you can answer any outstanding questions they may have about your company, the role, or the rest of the hiring process.

All of these hiring tips are sure ways to keep candidates interested in your business. Searching for the right candidate doesn’t have to fill you with dread. There are resources out there built just for small to medium-sized businesses like yours so that you can build the best team possible.
